In the late 90s, Professor David Harris, of the Blackrock Clinic, asked me to look after patients who were complaining of bad breath (halitosis). At that time, most bad breath sufferers had no place to go for help. In view of this, we decided to set up a ‘Halitosis Centre’ where we would find the cause and scientifically treat anyone suffering from this social stigma. Our aim was to give the patient a new clean fresh breath. Thus, The Fresh Breath Clinic was born in 2001 when I gave my general dental practice this name.
Ridding someone of smelly breath is combined with continual dental care both by patient and dentist. We have found that this team approach has resulted in a growing number of patients who now only return for simple preventive care. This not only saves time and money for the patients, but gives them pride in how their teeth look, comfort in avoidance of the dreaded pain of toothache, and a promise that they will still have of their own teeth in old age!
By adhering to the World Health Organisation standards of twice-yearly visits to the dentist, our patients have achieved healthy teeth, healthy mouths, and clean breath. Furthermore, we can diagnose mouth cancer at an early stage and reduce the possible risk of significant pain and disfigurement later.
All staff in The Fresh Breath Clinic are dentally qualified and often have a second qualification. The ‘news‘ tab on our website will keep you well informed and ‘up to date’ with what’s happening at The Fresh Breath Clinic.
